Thanks to HGTV and DIY Network, it has never been more popular to branch into the Real Estate industry. Chip and Johanna make it look so easy. Buy, sell, flip, love it, list it; Real Estate drama.
So you’re considering a career in Real Estate? Great! First, I’d recommend meeting with an office and fellow RE agents to see what they have to say about the industry. Do you want to start your own team? Do you want to be an independent broker? Do you want to join an existing RE team and have business fed to you? All of those are possibilities and they are opportunities for you. It is just up to you to decide what you want.
It would also be important for you to understand the industry. If you live in Colorado currently, you have spent the last 3+ years seeing our real estate industry boom. Housing prices are up, people are flooding in and there is plenty of business to go around. Even a market like Denver will shift and when that shift happens, you’ll need to be prepared and work harder and smarter for your business. Be careful jumping in to a career during an upslope without preparing to handle a downslope. Just like life, the industry is ever fluctuating and you’ll need to be ready to handle the good and the bad. If you are willing to put in the work, serve your clients to the highest level and run your career like a business, you can surely thrive in the Real Estate industry.
So you’ve decided to jump in. Now you need to get licensed. Yup, school work required to become a RE agent. You have both online options and in class, hands-on options. Both are great, so just pick what fits your learning style and your current schedule. On average the classes run about 6 weeks long and then you’ll be qualified to take the test. For most states you’ll have to take both the National test and the State specific test. Do not take your classes for granted, the tests are not easy. You’ll need to know the information. We have a great instructor in our office that teaches through American Dream Real Estate School. Once you pass, your education is on-going. You’ll have CE credits to maintain and classes to take yearly. So be ready and be excited to learn.
Real Estate is the best way to build wealth, whether you’re selling real estate or you’re investing in real estate. This is a great career to be in and a fantastic way to build wealth. Go to every class you can and join a great market center that is invested in you. Keller Williams offices are dedicated to the education of their agents and sponsor huge conferences every year that agents are encouraged to attend. These conferences discuss business building advice, tools, technology and trade secrets. Education is a huge part of a Realtor’s success. Invest in yourself and your business and you’ll have a long career to love looking back on. Best of luck and feel free to reach out to us for advice and encouragement.
